Our name
Why 39Knots? The name comes from an old method used to measure a ship’s speed: a rope with knots was released into the water, allowing sailors to calculate how fast the ship was moving. This measurement was called a knot.
The number 39 refers to the average speed of the currents in the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the most challenging and iconic navigation points in the world.
Thus, 39Knots symbolizes both maritime tradition and the strength and dynamism that inspire us in every project.
